What is MasterCard PayPass?

MasterCard PayPass is a contactless way to pay using your EastWest MasterCard credit card, without having to sign a charge slip for purchases less than Php2,000. MasterCard PayPass payments is accepted where you see this symbol () at the point-of-sale.

What are the benefits of a MasterCard PayPass-enabled credit card?

MasterCard PayPass allows you to make quick and effortless payments in places like coffee shops, fast food restaurants, gas stations and other places where you see this symbol () at the point-of-sale. It’s safe and you are in control because your card never leaves your hand at the point-of-sale. Unlike cash, you never need to worry about having the exact change and are able to keep track of all your purchases for those small, everyday items. A simple tap of your EastWest MasterCard is all it takes to pay.

How does it work?

MasterCard PayPass uses a hidden embedded computer chip and radio frequency antenna. After you tap your EastWest MasterCard PayPass-enabled credit card at the point-of-sale, payment details are sent wirelessly to the MasterCard network. Seconds after you tap, you will receive payment confirmation and be on your way, without having to sign a charge slip for purchases less than Php2,000.

Is this technology secure?

Yes. With secure encryption technology and Zero Liability protection, MasterCard PayPass is as safe as your regular credit card.

  • You are in control. Your EastWest MasterCard PayPass-enabled credit card never leaves your hands to make a payment.
  • No accidental payments. Your EastWest MasterCard PayPass-enabled credit card must come in contact with the contactless payment reader at the point-of-sale.
  • Not billed twice. Even if you tap more than once at the point-of-sale, you will only get billed once for your purchase.

Where can I use my EastWest MasterCard PayPass-enabled credit card?

You can tap your EastWest MasterCard PayPass-enabled credit card to pay for purchases anywhere you see this symbol
() at the point-of-sale. This includes coffee shops, fast food restaurants, gas stations, convenience stores, pharmacies and more. In the Philippines, you may use your EastWest MasterCard PayPass-enabled credit card to pay at select branches of the following merchant partners:

If you don’t see the symbol, your EastWest MasterCard PayPass-enabled credit card can still be used by dipping or swiping at the point-of-sale terminal, like non-PayPass MasterCard credit cards.

How do I pay with my EastWest MasterCard PayPass-enabled credit card?

To pay with your EastWest MasterCard PayPass-enabled credit card, simply tap your card on the ‘contactless’ payment reader at the point-of-sale.

How close does the ‘tap’ have to be to the contactless reader?

Your EastWest MasterCard PayPass-enabled credit card or the wallet containing your card must touch the contactless payment reader. Please note that if you have more than one MasterCard PayPass-enabled credit card in your wallet, you should ensure that the specific card you wish to use comes in contact with the contactless payment reader.

Can I get a charge slip after I make the payment?

To ensure that using MasterCard PayPass is as quick, simple and convenient as cash, retailers/merchants that accept MasterCard PayPass do not need you to sign a charge slip for purchases less thanPhp2,000. However, you may request for a receipt if one is required.
